Fix connectivity issues with your eSIM
If your eSIM is installed but not connecting to mobile data, there are a few common things to check. In most cases, the issue is caused by data roaming being turned off, the wrong SIM being selected for mobile data, APN settings not loading correctly, or the device not yet connecting to a supported network.
Before you start, make sure:
Your eSIM is installed and turned on
You have arrived in a supported destination if the plan activates on first connection
Airplane mode is turned off
You are in an area with mobile coverage
1. Turn on Data Roaming
Many travel eSIMs require Data Roaming to be turned on in order to connect.
iPhone
Go to Settings
Tap Mobile or Cellular
Tap your eSIM
Turn Data Roaming on
Also check:
Go to Settings > Mobile / Cellular
Make sure your eSIM is selected for Mobile Data
Samsung Galaxy
Go to Settings
Tap Connections
Tap Mobile Networks
Turn Data Roaming on
Then check:
Go to Settings > Connections > SIM Manager
Make sure the eSIM is enabled
Make sure the eSIM is selected for Mobile Data
Google Pixel
Go to Settings
Tap Network & Internet
Tap SIMs
Select your eSIM
Turn Roaming on
Then check:
In the same SIMs menu
Make sure the eSIM is active
Make sure it is selected for Mobile Data
Other Android phones
Menu names may vary, but usually you can find this under one of these paths:
Settings > Mobile Network
Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks
Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs
Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks
Look for:
Data Roaming and turn it on
Preferred SIM / Mobile Data and select your eSIM
SIM Manager or SIM Card Settings and make sure the eSIM is enabled
2. Check that the eSIM is selected for mobile data
Sometimes the eSIM is installed correctly, but your phone is still trying to use your primary SIM for data.
iPhone
Go to Settings > Mobile / Cellular
Tap Mobile Data
Select your travel eSIM
Samsung Galaxy
Go to Settings > Connections > SIM Manager
Under Preferred SIMs or Mobile Data, select your eSIM
Google Pixel
Go to Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs
Select which SIM is used for Mobile Data
Choose your eSIM
Other Android phones
Look for:
Preferred SIM
Default SIM for data
Mobile Data SIM
Data SIM
Then make sure your eSIM is selected.
3. Check APN settings
In most cases, APN settings load automatically. If they do not, your eSIM may show signal but still not connect to data properly.
Only change the APN if you were given APN details with your eSIM or by support.
iPhone
Go to Settings
Tap Mobile or Cellular
Tap your eSIM
Tap Mobile Data Network
Check whether the APN field is blank or matches the APN provided by your eSIM provider.
Samsung Galaxy
Go to Settings
Tap Connections
Tap Mobile Networks
Tap Access Point Names
Check that an APN is present and selected. If you were given a specific APN, enter it exactly as provided.
Google Pixel
Go to Settings
Tap Network & Internet
Tap SIMs
Tap your eSIM
Tap Access Point Names
Make sure the correct APN is selected.
Other Android phones
APN settings are usually found under one of these paths:
Settings > Mobile Network > Access Point Names
Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks > Access Point Names
Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs > Access Point Names
If you manually add an APN, save it and then select it as the active APN.
4. Restart your device
A restart often helps the phone re-register on the network.
On any phone
Turn the device off completely
Wait 30 seconds
Turn it back on
Check whether the eSIM connects after reboot
You can also try turning Airplane Mode on for 10 to 15 seconds, then turning it off again.
5. Check coverage in your area
Your eSIM may not connect if you are in an area with weak or no coverage, indoors, underground, or in a location where the supported network is limited.
Check:
Whether you are in a supported country for your plan
Whether you are in a rural, remote, underground, or low-signal area
Whether local network conditions are affecting service
If possible, move to a different location and try again.
6. Manually select a network
Sometimes your phone does not automatically connect to the best supported network. Manually choosing one can help.
iPhone
Go to Settings > Mobile / Cellular
Tap your eSIM
Tap Network Selection
Turn Automatic off
Wait for networks to load
Try selecting another available network
Samsung Galaxy
Go to Settings > Connections
Tap Mobile Networks
Tap Network Operators
Turn off Select automatically
Wait for available networks to appear
Try a different supported network
Google Pixel
Go to Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs
Tap your eSIM
Tap Automatically select network
Turn it off
Wait for networks to load
Try selecting another available network
Other Android phones
Look for:
Network Operators
Choose Network
Carrier
Automatically Select Network
Turn automatic selection off and try another network manually.
7. Check whether the plan has activated yet
Some eSIMs activate as soon as they are installed. Others only activate when they first connect to a supported network in the destination country.
If you are still in your home country, the eSIM may appear installed but not yet connect, which can be normal.
8. Make sure the eSIM is still installed and enabled
Sometimes the eSIM is installed but disabled.
iPhone
Go to Settings > Mobile / Cellular
Tap your eSIM
Make sure Turn On This Line is enabled
Samsung Galaxy
Go to Settings > Connections > SIM Manager
Make sure the eSIM is turned on
Google Pixel
Go to Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs
Select your eSIM
Make sure Use SIM is enabled
Other Android phones
Look for:
Enable SIM
Use eSIM
Turn SIM on
9. Try resetting network settings
This can help if the phone is stuck with incorrect network or APN information.
iPhone
Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone
Tap Reset
Tap Reset Network Settings
Samsung Galaxy
Go to Settings > General Management
Tap Reset
Tap Reset Network Settings
Google Pixel
Go to Settings > System
Tap Reset options
Tap Reset mobile network settings
Other Android phones
Search for Reset Network Settings in your Settings app.
Note that this may also reset saved Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings.
10. Check for device compatibility or lock issues
If the eSIM still does not connect, your device may:
Not fully support eSIM
Be locked to a carrier
Have limited compatibility with certain local networks
Be missing the required bands for the destination
This is more common on certain models bought through specific carriers or from regions where eSIM support varies.
11. If you still cannot connect
Please contact support and include the following so we can help faster:
Your phone model
Your current country and city
A screenshot showing the eSIM installed
A screenshot showing Data Roaming turned on
A screenshot showing which SIM is selected for Mobile Data
A screenshot of your APN settings
A screenshot of any error message
A speed test result if the issue is slow data rather than no connection
Quick checklist
Before contacting support, confirm all of these:
eSIM is installed
eSIM is enabled
Data Roaming is on
eSIM is selected for Mobile Data
APN is correct if required
Phone has been restarted
You are in a supported coverage area
You have tried manual network selection
